| GOALS: |
| • |
To
impart a basic working knowledge of art techniques,
media, vocabulary and history. |
| • |
To
increase awareness of the influence art has on our
culture: personal, interpersonal, sociological. |
| • |
To
involve students creatively, supported by effective
lessons and manageable techniques in a positive and
encouraging environment. |
| • |
To
gather and build a strong team of parent
docents.
To train the docents in the art of teaching children to: |
|
1.) |
Sequentially
build up and enhance their drawing and painting skills. |
|
2.) |
Heighten
their visual senses. |
|
3.) |
Appreciate
their own creativity and that of others, both the Great
Masters and their peers. |
|
4.) |
Become
familiar and comfortable with many art materials. |
| These
goals also apply to the docents. |
| |
| HOW
-- WITH DOCENT TRAINING? |
| Art Trek
art specialists bring our full rotation into the
classroom with monthly docent workshops.
Together we discuss teaching philosophies, methods and
strategies for different grade levels, and do the art
projects.
Before
the parents become docents, they become students.

|
| |
| SCHEDULING: |
| Docents
coordinate with teachers to set bi-weekly
schedules. One-hour allows for warm-up, lesson,
project, cool-down (share). Dark weeks are a good
time to make up any lessons. |
| |
| TRAINING: |
| All
volunteer docents will have clear plans, tasks and
identified roles. Docent workshops meet at the
school in the cafeteria and/or hall or multi-purpose
room approximately every three to four weeks to cover
the next set of lessons.
It
is there that the program takes its breath...in the
enthusiasm of the docents. We create, discuss,
trouble-shoot and role-play.

|
| |
| SUPPLIES: |
| Materials
will be
supplied by Art Trek, organized for each lesson and stored in one accessible
space on campus.
